Welcome to Expertise for Hire!

Everyone knows job hunting or prospecting for new clients is a drag. You send your résumé or CV into the Great Black Hole Vortex, or wherever résumés or CVs go to die, and you become discouraged. Or you drag yourself to yet another networking function, meet no one, and you become discouraged.

Let's use our connections to change all that!

My purpose for forming Expertise for Hire was to allow us as members to empower ourselves in attaining our career goals. Our online home here on Ning is designed to allow us to interact freely with one another and take advantage of our group's diverse, international membership. Especially in the present, very challenging financial environment, a dynamic networking resource can generate exciting opportunities which might not present themselves otherwise.

Especially in the present economic downturn, two forum categories are especially important: Expertise Available -- Seeking New Challenges (for members in the job market or actively pursuing new consulting clients) and Available Positions -- Inquire Within (including temporary positions and consulting opportunities as well as full-time and part-time jobs). Be sure to check each of them out regularly!

N.B. For those of you who are not already members of Expertise for Hire on LinkedIn -- here is the URL for the group there: http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/36226/54FBB54C6059

Please feel free to make suggestions to make this group more useful and effective!

Wake up call for all 'Experts for Hire"

Wow, There are almost 1k members on this site. What have you found here? Am I missing something?

This place reminds me of dried up desert with no life. It's content seems to be filled with meaningless, coming-from-old-school-hype that is used to promote a form of business that is DEAD. And this is an "expers for hire" SITE ? You gotta be kidding me!. COME ON PEOPLE! Where is your humanity? What are your questions, ideas, and solutions about how your business will be changing the world? Are you… Continue

Five Lessons for Job Hunters from America’s Best Dance Crew

My husband and I are huge dance fans. We grew up during the birth of hip-hop and both fancy ourselves 'dancers' - though our moves often make my teenage son cringe and ask us NEVER to do that in public. Okay, so you can't please everyone.

We've been watching America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC) since the first season. Last night's show was fantastic. But, more importantly, it made me think of some very important lessons for job hunters in our curr… Continue

Which is the more important issue: the environment or the economy?

I posed this question as a BuzzDash "buzzbite" yesterday, deliberately setting up an oversimplified either/or dichotomy, but providing the out of "both are equally important." I expected the responses to be fairly evenly divided.

This has not been the case, with 63 percent of the more than 75 people who have voted so far choosing "the economy." Only 11 percent so far picked… Continue

Why lower prices are bad news . . .

I begin this post with a caveat -- I am nobody's economist, so what I write here should be taken as my marginally informed opinion, period.

Anyway, that said, I'm jumping in headfirst, with a prediction. The American economy is in WAY more trouble than anyone has dared mention out loud. Why do I believe this? Because I'm beginning to hear mention of the dreaded "d" word. No, not depression. People have been mumbling about that for months, but mostly just loose talk. There really hasn't been muc… Continue

Sustainability when the sky is falling . . .

The gig is up – the U.S. economy, artificially kept afloat by smoke, mirrors, and illusion, in absolute defiance of reality, has hit the fan. It seems the collapse of the superheated housing bubble was only the beginning. The meltdown has extended beyond sub-prime mortgages to where it really hurts – Wall Street. Worse, the American sneeze has spread worldwide, not in the form of a cold, but pneumonia. And indications are that things will get much worse, and remain bad for a good long while befo… Continue

February's online recruiting news roundup is live. I'd say the biggest news this time is not in print. The big news is that job boards are getting busier and our revenue is stable or growing. Usually, we have a better sense for where the economy is…
